The Diploma in Social and Personal Health Psychology - (UCC)
The Social and Health Education Project collaborates with the Centre for Adult Continuing Education and the Department of Applied Psychology at University College Cork (UCC) in the delivery of a two-year undergraduate Diploma in Social and Personal Health Psychology. The course provides a strong theoretical foundation for those who are already practitioners in the field of social and health education. It is therefore of particular relevance to those who have completed a Specialised Practitioner Training Course with the Project.
The diploma course is offered on a biannual basis. Participants are required to attend a weekly evening session at U.C.C., as well as six weekend workshops (four workshops in Year One and two in Year Two - Saturday and Sunday 10.00am–5.00pm).
The course comprises the following modules:
Both formal and informal teaching methods are used on the course, with an emphasis being placed on making theoretical ideas accessible and applicable to participants’ practice. Assessment is conducted through written assignments and structured critical reflection on practice. Those who successfully complete this programme will be awarded 15 credits towards the B.A. (Hons) Degree at U.C.C.
Those who are interested in undertaking this course should contact Mary Mangan, Senior Training and Development Officer (Personal Development) or Liam McCarthy, Senior Training and Development Officer (Community and Organisational Development).
Note:
The diploma programme is currently under review by the Project following the introduction by UCC of a revised fee structure. This means that it will not be offered in 2007. However, it is anticipated that the course will again be offered in 2008 at an accessible rate through a new partnership with the UCC Department of Adult Continuing Education.
